Kelow is a multi-talented artist on the DMV-based Baby Dinosaurs & Co. label who is using her talents as a musician, writer, painter and designer to take the world of culture and self-expression by storm. As a rapper, Kelow’s music is carefree, confident and expressive, the product of a talented young musician growing into her own and comfortable with herself every step of the way. The confidence that shines through her music, her voice, her clothing and her overall identity far exceeds her age: Kelow’s debut album Colored Pencils, released earlier this year, was written while she was just a senior in high school.

That project has yielded a slew of singles and videos released over the past few months, covering a myriad of topics about life and love with a few reoccurring themes: relationships, bravado and weed. The musical style ranges from the techno-influenced TO THE HEART to the smoke-induced LOUD and matches her modern originality with a vintage appreciation for quality music and fan interaction.

With a grassroots following that now spans the globe- from Texas and Seattle to Iraq and Ireland – this Southern Maryland native has rapidly touched a cord with fans who identify with her image and persona: a girl being herself, living her art, and making good music. Tumblr is sprinkled with images of her diverse fans dressing like her, getting tattoos, holding up pics of her recent cd, and re-blogging her daily clothing choices. Kelow isn’t just a rapper. She’s one of the few artists that the word “movement” actually applies to. That movement is supported not only by the artist herself but the creative team behind her, Baby Dinosaurs & Co.

BD&CO is an indie collective and music/product label that has played a significant role in bringing Kelow’s music to life. Co-owned by brothers Ayinde7 (filmmaker and creative director) and Miko (producer and music director), Kelow has begun her career backed by edgy production and high quality visuals. Along with guiding the young star, all recording, production, writing, artwork, photo-shoots and videos are handled in house and allow Kelow to focus on being herself and creating fresh, independent content.

With a DIY, art-first approach, Kelow has been able to connect with her fans – and organically grow her fanbase – by pushing fresh content to the web quickly and consistently, with new video releases and singles dropping monthly. Kelow is hard at work on her next project and is steadily creating art that speaks to her and her fans – and it’s only just beginning.

Cash Money Records CEO and founder Birdman signed the New Orleans native to the label in November, with his first album for Cash Money due next spring.

“It is an honor to get the opportunity to work with Mystikal, as we have a long history together,” said Birdman. “He is a great artist and his talent, combined with our hard work and strong team, is going to result in some of the best music of his career. We are expecting great work from Mystikal. Slim and I already have him in the studio working on his first album for Cash Money.”

Mystikal’s first single for Cash Money, entitled “Original,” features Lil Wayne and Baby. The club banger will debut today on New York radio station Hot 97.
